He had gone into the goaf behind ironstone face to find some ironstone to complete a partly filled tub, when a piece of shale from the roof fell upon and killed him. The fall disclosed a slip and moist parting above, and displaced a prop. A shot had been fired about 3.5 hours previously and this doubt, had shaken the stone.
