Details of Event

Deceased descended the shaft about 4.20 a.m. and walked about 200 yards to an engine set which takes the hewers inbye; when he arrived at the set he was taken ill and died in a few minutes. There was no suggestion of any accident. A post-mortem examination was made and an inquest held, at which medical evidence was given to the effect that death was due to heart disease and so the Jury found.
