Instead of entering the dressing floor by the door which was locked, but could easily have been lifted off its hinges, or the key obtained, he attempted to get in by a hole in the roof through which a revolving shaft worked and also some bevelled wheels which were close outside. He became entangled in the cog-wheels and remained fast for three quarters of an hour before released, as no useful help was at hand. He died from shock immediately on being released.
