He had been assisting to build a brick wall at the side of a roadway to carry a haulage pulley at a junction. Work was finished for the shift and preparations were being made for leaving the place when a large fall of sandstone from the roof instantly killed him. The position and condition of the road had not been altered in my way for at least 10 years and was thought to be perfectly safe.
