Details of Event

Owing to a serious underground fire, referred to elsewhere in this Report, the men were ordered to leave the workings by the return airways. Deceased, however, persisted in going out along a main intake and endless rope haulageway. The heat of the fire caused the haulage ropes to break, and the full and empty trams ran down the drift and killed deceased.
